# Applications

Represents a software application. Tracks vendor and product, version information (major/minor/edition/service pack), IP
address, CPE name for vulnerability correlation, release date, end-of-life date, and a list of other display options.

Third-party applications are among the most common attack vectors for threat actors. Most third-party tools are well
known and have documented exploits; if they aren't well patched, they offer an easy way for threat actors to enter
your internal network.

We identify over 1500 common technologies and manually escalate any discovered with publicly known vulnerabilities.
Application discovery is performed by analyzing all exposed Ports, sending requests to them, and analyzing the responses
for common patterns and fingerprints these technologies are known to respond with.

## Application Organization

A Table list is the default view for the Applications page. You can switch between Table or Tree view by clicking the
view icons.

A best practice is to use the tree view configuration to organize the list of applications.

Switch to the tree view, click the configuration gear icon, and then set the **Tree Levels** and **Sort By** options.
Your changes automatically save and update.
