# Engagement States

During our penetration testing process, engagement states serve as a vital tool to keep you informed about the progress of the test. Each state marks a specific phase in the journey, from initial planning to testing and final reporting. By understanding these states, you'll gain insight into how NetSPI is tracking progress and when key milestones are reached.

The diagram below depicts the engagement state flow. Orange boxes featuring the NetSPI logo represent stages under NetSPI's responsibility, while green boxes signify states in which action is required by the client.
